Delegates from around 200 countries, business leaders and civil society representatives gather in Dubai for the UN COP28 on Climate Change. The event, which runs from November 30 to December 13, has food systems as its central focus and evaluates global progress against the goals established in the 2015 Paris Agreement.
The article highlights the crucial role of the countries of the Southern Cone of America, especially Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay, in mitigating climate change. These countries could position themselves as sustainable suppliers of food and technologies, taking advantage of their environmental attributes. However, the need to effectively communicate sustainability and develop science-based indicators is emphasized.
COP28 represents an opportunity to address these challenges multilaterally, strengthening the international trade system and promoting inter-institutional cooperation.
