Former Secretary of Agriculture and agribusiness consultant Marcelo Regúnaga analyzed the potential of the Argentine agricultural sector for Canal E, supported the deregulation measures promoted by the Government, and maintained that the country needs to consolidate stable rules of the game to multiply its exports.

Marcelo Regúnaga valued that the presidential speaker had put the focus on agriculture during his press conference. «I believe it is very important that the presidential voice takes care of the agricultural sector», he stated.

The importance of agriculture for the acquisition of foreign exchange

Asimismo, remember the weight that the field has on the Argentine economy: «The agricultural sector is today the main net exporter of foreign exchange, fifty and a thousand million will be created this year».

However, Regúnaga believes that the true potential is much greater. “We could be exporting 80 thousand million dollars”, he said, even though he clarified that this project was part of the assumption of maintaining current international prices.

Government management comes along a good path for agriculture

While highlighting the deregulations implemented by the Government, we remember that there are still distortions that affect competitiveness: «The Government is doing very good work in terms of deregulation and alternatives so that more favorable conditions for production are created».

However, the interviewee warned: «This sector continues to be a postponed sector, despite the fact that the current government is making changes in very good direction». In this sense, he insisted that the gradual elimination of retentions and macroeconomic stability would allow for a strong increase in production.

In turn, it supported the official project to modify the Tierras Law. “I don't see it as a problem, except, as the law is established, that overcomes the State,” he explained, referring to the arrival of foreign investors.
