La seguridad alimentaria es un tema delicado ya que el MERCOSUR es uno de los mayores exportadores de alimentos del mundo. En consecuencia, esto ha creado algunos conflictos internos dentro de la UE (como se discuti\u00f3 en el seminario web n. \u00b0 1), como que se ha argumentado que, por ejemplo, MERCOSUR puede no cumplir con las regulaciones sanitarias y fitosanitarias (MSF), lo que podr\u00eda reducir el costo de los alimentos. producci\u00f3n y poner en riesgo a los consumidores de la UE. De hecho, la Cumbre Mundial sobre la Alimentaci\u00f3n (Roma 1996) establece: \u201cExiste seguridad alimentaria cuando todas las personas, en todo momento, tienen acceso f\u00edsico y econ\u00f3mico a suficientes alimentos seguros y nutritivos que satisfagan sus necesidades diet\u00e9ticas y preferencias alimentarias para una vida activa y saludable\u201d. .
